The tranquillity of this place known as the fleet is great, a safe shallow place to spend with the kids, digging for worms for fishing or generally paddling about when the tide is like this, half in or out.
I believe this is where the famous “bouncing bomb” was tested. I can’t imaging massive Lancaster bombers flying over here. What a noise that would be!

the bombing run between wyke and langton herring was used right up to the 60s the Americans were amongst the last to use it red flags were flown on Chesil Beach before the bombing runs and I well remember being in the water at the cove between Martleaves point and the narrows when we were bombarded with water spray cascading everywhere no one was hurt but shows how far off the target run they could sometimes be the bombs were intended for West Bay not the Fleet
