Portland Bill, yesterday

Stone sundial

Got the time? :)

This Portland bill site has been a little quiet this last week or so, well, the end of the summer holidays and with them being hit and miss weather wise, best to make the most of the good days… alas, I have, with my youngest son, time shared with them is time used well… time!

Time, that relentless follower, the most precious thing we have and something we all to easy waste, sadly.

So, it was great to get another poem which was… timely, pardon the pun!

How we long for…

YESTERDAY

Remember Easton Station in our very early days -
When we waited on the wooden bridge, covered in white haze
Where the smoke from out the engine, drifted silent o-er the track
Like the distant days of childhood -
That never will come back.

When with Mother as our shepherd -
on a treat from church or school -
We would travel down to Weymouth -
To search for sandy pools.

For the pleasures of the seaside -
are everywhere to find -
And the denizens of tidal flow -
excite all children’s minds.

Laughing, searching through the day -
No clouds to dim our sun -
For everything was perfect then -
no worries – all was fun.

And coming home at eventide -
Within this siding bay -
“Dear God I wish that in my dreams -
That this was Yesterday”.

Bob Wollage wrote the above poem in 1984.

The best days of our lives… fleeting yet so influential for life.

Time wait’s for no man, nor woman. :)

Time and tide wait for no man. This is a very true saying Rob, and it’s amazing how much of it is wasted and we don’t realise until we reach the autumn of our life just how much of it we wasted ourselves. Jamie crammed so much into his shortened life that it inspired us to try to do the same, but alas, our older bones won’t allow us to do as much as we would like, and so I would say to all younger people, don’t sit around waiting for things to happen, MAKE them happen, not only will it give you a sense of ‘doing’ but there will be so much more to look back on. Time becomes very precious as we age and so we have to use it wisely, not waste it on worrying, arguing, getting involved in all manner of negative things. If we can be positive in our outlook, friendly towards our neighbour, and generally have a good demeanour then it will be worthwhile. Bob Wollage had so many wonderful memories and thank God he wrote them down in the form of poetry. Write your memories down and keep by you to read occassionally – it can be so good to look back on on a cold wintry day.
