Tesco on Portland open and exceeding expectations

Tesco at Portland

About time, Portland gets a Tesco!

Portland has a Tesco… Open!

The new Tesco on Portland has been a real success since opening recently, having exceeded sales daily, which was more than expected for all of us really, but also drives home the point of how much a decent shopping service was needed here.

Co-op are most likely failing fast here, not that I’d wish any company or business to fail, but they have had the monopoly here for a long time and rightfully, that has ended. They had long enough to give us something back but chose not to.

Shame on them. At least the elderly here can get a good return on their pension when it comes to the shopping. ;)

I am working there on nights, so I know things are selling well as I am sticking the shelves back up again!! You lot eat too many biscuits! :P

Carry on… ;)

It will be interesting to see what happens around the Tesco store in regards to buildings.

Not been impressed at the roadworks going on in Easton, made worse by the fact they weren’t finished by the time the shop opened!

Then again, not a patch on the cock ups in Weymouth! ;)

As you are part of the community and Tesco does things with the community, the community projects as they are called, have you any ideas to put forward?

If you wanted to put them forward in person, see Roscoe in the store. ;)  Otherwise stick some ideas in the comments.  :D

Guessing most of you have visited the store already, how did you find it? Anything you wish they did stock up on?

I noticed a few people are glad to have somewhere to at last buy cd’s, seems odd in these “mp3″ days, yet we have not had somewhere to buy them here really, so no surprise. ;)

I am glad to not “have” to go to Weymouth if I don’t want to, knowing I can avoid the rip off prices at the co-op and get the stuff I need here is a good thing.

I just hope to have the permanent job now. ;)

‘ Beware the Ides of March ‘ if Co-op goes Tesco will then have the monopoly, will the prices then go up ?

Not sure they will, as it should be a uniform price in all the same shops in any area, ie, same as Weymouth’s Tesco prices.

Mind you, should that happen, it can’t even be as bad as Co-op was/is and people would just go back to Asda or other.

I am quite impressed with our new Supermarket, and have to say I imagine most people are. Yes, some of the prices are dearer than other supermarkets, but then again some of the prices in other supermarkets exceed the Tesco ones, so I feel it is 6 and two 3s. I have visited a few times and find the atmosphere quite friendly – the car park is well laid out in comparison to that of Asda, over the water. We never voiced an opinion as to whether Portland should or should not have a shop like this, but have to say it’s a job well done and worth waiting for. The shelves have always been well stocked when we’ve been in, (thanks Rob for all your hard work – keep at it) and the staff have always been very friendly and helpful. Thank you for sharing Rob :o )

I have thought for a very long time that Portland should have its own supermarket and frankly long overdue well done Tescos for making the investment and providing jobs for Portlanders it of course saves lots of journeys across the water thus the odd price difference is well offset by the fuel saving in long a traffic queue and as Rob has all ready pointed out the price across Tesco supermarkets is in general uniform so if the co-op folded whch it probably will not would make no difference
